HOW WE HELP

Financial Assistance to Families

In most cases when a child has cancer, one parent must their job in order to care for their ill child. Medical expenses not covered by insurance can be enormous, and ancillary costs, such as travel, child care for siblings, hospital meals and parking, and accommodations during out-of-state treatment are high. When coupled with reduced income, these expenses can be devastating. The Tomorrow Fund helps ease financial burdens through:

  • Daily Monetary Stipends for Meals – Provided to parents whenever a child is hospitalized overnight, meal stipends ensure that parents can remain with their children as much as possible with worrying about breakfast, lunch, and dinner costs at the hospital. In 2003, children with cancer spent 2,599 nights in Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

  • Hospital Parking Passes – Hospital parking typically costs $6-$8 per day. Parking Passes enable families to park as close to the hospital as possible, free of charge, throughout treatment.

  • Home Expenses Assistance – Families are often forced to stop paying their utility bills in order to pay for the medical needs of their children. This eventually leads to the utility companies threatening to shut off services to the families. The Tomorrow Fund provides emergency support to ensure the continuation of vital services in the home when necessary.

  • Medication and Insurance Co-Pays – Assistance is available to help with expenses not covered by health insurance, such as co-payments for medical services the children receive and chemotherapy medications.

  • Funeral Fund – Assistance is provided for families of children who lose the battle with cancer who cannot afford such costs.
